Our 9 best tips for planning your perfect Noosa wedding

If you missed it, we recently wrote an article on why Noosa is becoming the most sought after place in Australia for the perfect destination wedding. We could go on and on about our talented wedding suppliers, the beautiful surrounds and our welcoming community... But instead we’re going to get straight to business.

As one of Noosa’s top wedding stylists, we’ve been down the aisle a few times (figuratively speaking) and have thrown together our top 9 tips for planning the ultimate wedding in Noosa.

And even when seasons change, Noosa still stays as glorious as ever. You’ll love getting married here any time of year - it’s just down to personal preference!

The craziest time of year is spring - as the weather is pretty perfect. So if this is your preference, then you want to lock in your suppliers ASAP. But winter weddings are becoming ever more popular as they offer crisp blue skies and low chances of rain. And summer offers up balmy afternoons and gorgeous warm evenings. While Autumn promises comfortable temperatures, pretty colours and cooler evenings.

It’s a tough choice, but it all starts to fall into place once you’ve made it!

2. Location and venue

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: In Noosa, we’re spoilt for choice. We have a huge range of high quality venues and ceremony locations - and they’re all ticking the boxes of dreamy and perfect.

These are the things you’ll want to lock in before anything else. So get onto it! First in, best dressed.

3. The Stationery

Your Save The Date invite is going to be the next thing on your to-do list. It’s kind of a big deal and it gives your guests both a date for them to lock into the diary and an insight into what your wedding “style” is going to be. Which means you’ll also want to start thinking of a theme…(see point #4)

Other stationery items you’ll need to think about is the official invite, table seating chart, name tags for the tables, menus, order of service sheets and more! There’s quite a lot of planning that goes into this so we recommend finding a supplier who you can communicate easily with and who comes highly recommended in terms of quality and service.

Also, if you’re keen on the idea - the paperless invite is also becoming pretty popular. It’s a great way to help the environment and it’s also nice on the budget!

4. The Theme

When you’re choosing a theme, you generally want to make sure that it’s going to tie in with your wedding location. And as we’ve mentioned, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast really have it all. If you’re looking for a beach wedding, rustic country wedding, glamour, boho, marquee or tipi wedding - anything is possible.  

Once you’re familiar with your location, you’ll be able to work on your theme. The biggest tip we can give is to go with your own personal style - YOU need to love it.

And if you’re planning on engaging with a stylist, the best thing is to discuss your theme ideas with them. They’ll be able to point you in the right direction and keep you on trend. They’ll also help ensure that the theme then flows effortlessly through the rest of your wedding elements.

5. Planning tools

At this point you may be thinking - there’s A LOT that goes into planning a wedding. It can be quite daunting and overwelming. But it doesn’t need to be - it can be fun!

Which is why we recommend getting as organised as possible with planning tools. It’ll help you stay on top and can be a serious game changer.

And for everything else... there’s an app for that. And if you’re more of a visual, write-it-down-in-black-and-white kind of person, The Brides Tree (who are proudly homegrown here on the Sunshine Coast) have a multitude of free planning resources which cover every aspect of your day. #amazing!

And if you’re super organised, you could also create yourself a wedding website. The Knot offer a free customisable website which helps you manage all elements of your big day including guest lists, gift registry, budgeting and planning. And did we mention it’s free?

While you’re thinking about your planning strategies, theme and stationary, you’ll also want to start thinking about booking in your celebrant, photographer, florist and stylist at the same time.  Like we said, there’s lots to do!

 

6. Choosing your Celebrant 

The most important thing we can suggest when choosing a celebrant is to meet them. A great connection is so important and unfortunately - there’s no app for this one. So pick up the phone and have a chat! You’ll quickly get a feel if they’re the right one for you and from there you can arrange to meet face-to-face.

This is really important - because after they’ve helped you tie the knot, they’ll practically be like family.


 

7. Photos to last a lifetime

We all want great pics to look back on in 20 years time and choosing the right photographer for your special day is a big decision. Lucky for you, Noosa is abundant in super talented photographers and your toughest job is going to be deciding between so much damn talent.

The best way to do this is to check out their website and social media to get a feel of their style. Instagram stalking is fully condoned! Also try and look at their recommendations online. And make sure you get savvy with their packages and what’s included in the costs.

Lastly, once you’ve narrowed it down, give them a call. A good photographer is one that makes you feel comfortable, can guide you as much or little as you prefer on the day and who you can really connect with. More real, less awkies.

8. Do you need a Wedding Stylist?

Let’s get real here. Getting married is one of the biggest things you’ll ever do. Amazing! But it can be stressful. And unless you’re a trained professional stylist with a lot of time on your hands, the best thing you’ll ever do is hire a professional wedding stylist to take care of all the styling, decor, set-up and pack-down for you.   

A good stylist will make the whole experience a memorable one and will also ensure that your fairytale vision comes to life.

Our 3 biggest tips?

  1. Create a cohesive theme from start to finish.
  2. Don’t choose a wedding decorator on price alone.
  3. Do judge your decorators style by work they’ve done in the past. A wedding designer's style is reflected in their work. So you need to find someone who has similar taste to you. And experience is key, especially if you’re giving them full decorative reign.

9. Flowers are a deal breaker

Flowers are a big deal in 2018. And we literally mean BIG. Big, bold and beautiful!

Flowers play a huge part in your wedding, they help create the mood for your entire day and include everything from your bouquet and ceremony decor to finishing touches at the reception. They can be soft and romantic, elegant or they can be used to create that special “wow” factor.

If you’re engaging in a stylist, it’s really best to get a floral recommendation through them. They’ll know the best florist to fit in with your style and decor and ensure it complements the overall theme. It makes a huge difference to your wedding “look” and can be a bit of a deal breaker if they don’t collaborate.
